One-piece connector plugs into pc board
Patented compression system eliminates costly female header

eecom.jpg (9793 bytes)Comprising a single plug-in part, the Encircled Electronic Compression (EECOM) connector plugs into the host pc board's plated-through holes.  This design eliminates the female header, thus halving the number of parts and electrical connections and reducing material costs.

The EECOM connector achives electrical contact with compressible transverse terminals (split pins).   Each opposing pin-half presses against its side of the plated-through hole with 100-g force.  Additional secondary contact points are created as the pins embed themselves in the plated-through hole.

Specifications include a contact life of 1,000 mating cycles, a typical contact resistance of 0.5m-ohm, and an insertion force of 50 g/contact.   Other specifications include an electrical rating of 1A at 100 Vac, and insulation resistance of 500 M-ohm, and a dielectric withstanding voltage of 1,000 Vac.

The connector is molded into a high-temperature thermoplastic housing that secures the pins in place.  The housing provides an orientation pin and two spring clips that guide the header into position and attach it to the pc board. ($0.02 to $0.06 per contact/prod qty - 4 weeks ARO.)
